Last month, a leak about Samsung’s next flagship non-foldable smartphone lineup, the Galaxy S27 series, revealed its memory and storage configurations. It claimed that the upcoming phones would offer the same options as their predecessors. However, the brand now appears to be revising its plans and considering variants with less memory due to the ongoing shortage of memory and storage components.
According to tipster @kro_roe, Samsung is planning to offer the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ with 8GB of RAM alongside the previously leaked 12GB variants. With memory chip prices skyrocketing, the company may charge more for the 12GB models, potentially increasing the starting prices of both phones. Introducing 8GB RAM variants could help Samsung keep its starting prices in check.
The tipster also claims that Samsung is planning to use different UFS storage versions across the Galaxy S27 lineup to manage costs. As a result, some models may offer faster storage speeds than others. A previous leak made a similar claim, suggesting that Samsung could use different storage and memory modules with varying speeds across the lineup.
Lastly, the leak claims that even though Samsung is planning to offer a 1TB storage option for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, rising storage prices could force the brand to charge more for it. Increasing memory and storage costs could also prompt Samsung to scale back storage upgrade promotions, replace them with smaller discounts, and offer fewer launch benefits.
